Film No 16 Youth in revolt
 photo youthinrevolt_zpsd38a53d9.jpg
coming of age stuff with michael cera effectively indulging his inner psycho nut bag in an attempt to win the heart of his summer fling sweetheart.
nice tight script, well etched out characters, some fantastic dialogue and an ingenious story about the lengths some teenage boys will go to get their end away!
Film No 17 Labor Pains
href="http://s1358.beta.photobucket.com/user/benjekyll/media/PHor8wptxbS6rs_m_zps80378391.jpg.html" target="_blank"> photo PHor8wptxbS6rs_m_zps80378391.jpg
this is a pretty bad film, lindsay lohan fakes a pregnancy to keep her job working as a secretary to a douchebag.
this much like a lot of recent rom-coms is horrendously predictable, but where it works, and it does work is the great performance of lindsay lohan as the titular character.
yes some of the jokes are old, and more than a little obvious but the story is simple and yes very throw away but its easy to watch and should raise a few giggles along the way.
Film No 18 Teen Witch
 photo toysrus_teen_witch_zpsa9f812a2.jpg
this was quite clearly a pre cursor for sabrina the teenage witch, but where that was smart, clever and funny this is none of those things.
it has truly awful soundtrack cheese and tack just ooze from every pore of the screen, this is a car crash of film making, there are no redeeming features to this film, except that it eventually ends.
the acting is terrible, the script is bland and lifeless and time has not been kind to it, you remember the saying that the 80`s was the decade that taste forgot, this film exemplifies why the above statement is so painfully true.
avoid this and watch several episodes of sabrina instead, you will be much much happier.
Film No 19 Jackass 3
 photo jackass3_zps58c7774f.jpg
you gotta know the score by now, these idiots run around hitting themselves and each other in the process of  a number of pranks and stunts, as they attempt to destroy themselves all in the name of entertainment for us the viewer to watch and wince as they endeavour to keep us interested by hurting themselves in more and more extreme and imaginative ways.
the law of diminishing returns is remarkably prevalent here, as the joke is starting to wear a little thin, they guys look old and tired and the stunts just dont really do much to dazzle the senses, at least not like they used to, the guys have now become victims of their own success by generating a slew of imitators who have now surpassed their bone crunching efforts with ease, making these gents seem a little tame in comparison.
that said there are still some very funny moments, the giant hand high five prank is exceptionally funny, as is them dropping bam into a room full of snakes, but sadly there are too many stunts that you just watch.
the point of these shows is to make you feel sick and wince in pain with them as much as it is to point and laugh at them, but rarely does this the third film scale those once frequented dizzying heights.
shame really, but i think its time for knoxvillle and co to hang up their boots and move on.

Film No 14 Cube
 photo cube1_zps16a366cb.jpg
a group of strangers find themselves trapped like lab rats in a maze of identical rooms filled with deadly traps that are only identifiable by a set of 9 digit serial numbers that might have a clue to which rooms are trapped and which rooms arent.
that is the key to the success of this film, its simplicity of a group of strangers struggling to survive in an unknown and potentially fatal situation.
the characters are well drawn and you instantly find yourself liking or hating them, and as such wishing them safety or death, the acting is good and the effects are great, especially for a low budget film.
throw in some nasty shock deaths and some very tense moments and we have a winner, the government conspiracy angle is a little old and tired but its not the driving force behind the film, its the humans who make the film and their struggles with each other as much as the titular cube they find themselves in that drive the film through to its heart breaking conclusion.

Film No 15 Its a boy/girl thing
 photo itsaboygirlthing_zpsa29e18f4.jpg
another in a long line of body swap films, this time its the geeky girl and a jock football star who swap.
as is always the way they dont get on at the beginning, and whilst on a history school trip they have an argument in front of an ancient idol, the god of mischief, who deems it fit to swap the two bickering muppets around.
as is abundantly obvious from the opening scene they realize the errors of their ways and notice that they both mis judged each other.
romance blossoms and yada yada yada..........
where this film works, much like freaky friday is the winning performances of the two leads, both have a warmth and genuine affection for the characters.
there are some fantastically funny set pieces in between the obvious and cliche ridden story littered with some cracking one liners, and the timing of the two leads is perfect, its just such a shame that the overall story is pretty terrible and very very predictable.

Film No 13 Demons 2
 photo demon_cover_zps8f2f10f9.jpg
well well well well, this is a truly awful film.
after the intensity and claustrophobia of the first film about a horror movie coming to life and demons terrorizing a room full of cinema goers, this one attempts to replicate that same feel with a the same film coming to life and infecting a tower block full of people and turning them into demons.
everything about this film is wrong, and dated.
unsurprising that its dated, but some films can age well, this on the other hand is a walking, talking cliche of bad 80`s horror.
the soundtrack is cheesy not creepy, filled to the brim with bad 80`s rock music, it really just doesnt gel with feel of the film.
too much hair, too much tack, everything that is bad about 80`s horror is present and correct in this film.
the terrible acting and bad direction are the cherries on top of the steaming pile of unspeakable stuff that this film is.
avoid it at all costs, you will not get the hour and half back!

Film No 12 Rabid
 photo la-locandina-di-rabid-sete-di-sangu_zps309cb942.jpg
the david cronenberg classic Rabid, is essentially an outbreak movie, pretty much a zombie movie at its base with a lady infecting people and turning them into rabid flesh hungry brain dead zombies!
starring the porn legend marilyn chambers in one of her attempts to break out of the smut and into the mainstream, im not sure if picking what at the time was a fiercely independent film maker as her first few stepping stones was a wise idea, but what she does do well is act!
her performance is everything it needs to be and more, she does make you feel a great sympathy for her character who is essentially the villain of the piece, as she is patient zero and responsible for the outbreak, but since it isnt her fault(step forward shifty surgeon!) we feel for her.
if the performance had been duff, most likely we wouldnt have cared less, as it is chambers brings a vulnerability to the character that is sadly lacking in a lot of other films of this ilk.
as in most of these films there is a slight attempt at social commentary but as with all the other films of this ilk the commentary is heavy handed and doesnt really add anything to the movie.
sit back, enjoy the gore and the great performance of marilyn chambers and this will be a fun ride.

time to try and catch up on the films, as i am falling very very badly behind!!!

Film No 11 The Bourne Legacy
 photo bourne_legacy_zps33a1ebd5.jpg
this was a massive disappointment, im one of those rare people that didnt fall over themselves with love for the first 3 films in the series, personally i found the whole "i have lost my mind but i appear to be double hard anyway" attitude a tad tiresome about a third into the second film, but even through these annoying character traits the action was fast and slick and you didnt care if the story was over the top gash.
this one on the other hand just delivers you an annoying male lead, a vacuous female lead with no chemistry  between them, an overly needlessly over complicated script about under cover groups who pull the strings behind the closed doors of the american military.
where this film fails and the other succeeded is the action, for all the bad acting the other films delivered hyper kinetic and very slick action, be it through brutal fisticuffs or insane chases it kept the pace up and running, this one though, its a bit wet and very predictable.
and has such a weak ending that just smacks or opening up the doors for a fresh new franchise.
uck, no thanks.

set list 09/02/13

set list 02/02/13

in an attempt to keep things interesting and spontaneous i stole an idea from my local pub.
what they would do once a month was give their house DJ`s a pile of unmarked cds and get them to play songs almost at random.
what i did was enter the studio with 8 unmarked cds filled with 15 - 20 tracks on each and rotated the discs picking at random.
