One Minute Science

One Minute Science
Sunna

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 21 May 2008
this album has got the lot
it really is that simple
the range of songs on display is scary from the big rock rage of im not trading to the industrial tinged stomp of power struggle through the acoustic sorrow of 7% to the trip hop fuelled OD to the blues jazz lunacy of grape
at every turn its inspired and unexpected and that is what makes this such an enthralling listen
sadly the band is no more but atleast they have left behind this towering majestic album of utter genius

The Amalgamut

Filter

3.0 out of 5 stars very shiny, 20 May 2008
filter bloke ex nine inch nails and stuff who cares?
look at this album on its own merits!
and there are plenty of those the vocal performance for me is the stand out as this is i feel the best that richard patrick has sounded his voice soars and roars in equal measures and the music is very slick and exceptionally varied in style and tempo and thankfully is very rarely dull
they manage to mix industrial metal with big stadium rock melodies and hooks that keep you humming them for days
but on the downside the lyrics are truly terrible and sound like they have been written using a rhyming dictionary
and the music suffers because it has lost some of its bite and some of the individuality that set filter apart and they have started to sound like any other faceless american band that wants to moan about the world
ultimately disappointing but has a couple of face ripping tunes that just about keep it afloat but i would suggest starting somewhere else as this is trying to please everyone and has spread itself too thin

2.0 out of 5 stars misleading box, 15 May 2008
a group of american students are on a trip to ireland for halloween to study the local rituals and as is usual bump into something they didn't bargain for
what this does have going for it is that it seems to have a better budget than most other films of this ilk and subsequently it looks better than most
it builds a creepy atmosphere quite well for the majority of the film and the direction is pretty good and nicely stylish
and it does have some very attractive actresses involved too
the downside though is that this has already been done too many times already and we really didn't need this film to be made as it adds nothing new to the mix
the acting is pretty poor and the special effects aren't great either
when the death does begin i found it was when i started to get bored they ruin all the eerie stuff that they had build and manage to completely trash that in 10 minutes of sex and blood
in short it could have been great but they played it safe and gave us something obvious that we have all seen before

2.0 out of 5 stars oh dear, 15 May 2008
what we have here is pretty poor even by b movie standards
the plot is ancient, escaped psychopath is on the loose and a bus full of cheerleaders have got lost and ran out of petrol in the same set of woods
you can see where this is leading
on the plus side it does set up its stall early and just gets straight into the action there is a fair amount of splatter and a truckload of nudity but considering it does have 4 adult actresses in it so that wasn't really much of a surprise now was it
and the plot does have quite a nice twist to it
the downside of which there is much ......... the acting even for a b movie is awful the special effects really aren't special at all they are terrible at best and embarrassing at the worst the soundtrack similarly is terrible and feels inappropriate
it does kill time but i severely doubt you will want to watch this more than once if you can even get through it once

The Filthiest Show in Town

The Filthiest Show in Town
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult

4.0 out of 5 stars pure sleaze, 6 April 2008
what you are looking at here is a superb collection of songs lovingly crafted into quite possibly the sleaziest album ever made.
they call their sound disco sleaze and it really is the most appropriate term for it big beats tussle with groovy bass lines whilst seedy lyrics and b movie samples are layered over the top
everything about this album just oozes sleaze and filth and as long as you can appreciate the dark humour laced through songs like transvestite sista and jet set sex then you will really enjoy this album and just when you think they can do no more they hit you with a deft touch of insane melody to finish with covergirl blues
absolutely brilliant

Demanufacture

Demanufacture
Fear Factory

5.0 out of 5 stars phenominal, 20 Mar 2008
if you were to look up industrial metal in the dictionary you should see a picture of this album as it easily the most appropriate band to fit the name as most other industrial acts seen to emphasise the electronic elements it is used here to sharpen a very heavy metal sound.
in effect what we have here is a death metal album with electronics and as such there was nothing like it at the time of release and there still isn't much that can match it to this day.
the thing is that it excells everywhere! from the glorious stabbing riffs that litter the whole album or the superhuman drumming ............. but probably the best part is the mesmerising performance that comes out of burtons mouth!
this guy has a voice that most vocalists would kill for!
the guy can roar and growl with the best and then nail a hook in the chorus that you will be singing for days!
utter genius and well deserving of every bit praise it gets.
listen and hear one of the most influential and important bands of the last decade at the height of their powers!

4.0 out of 5 stars this is entertainment, 17 Mar 2008
if you are expecting top-notch acting then look elsewhere the same can be said of the wafer thin plot as it purely serves the purpose of linking the fights together .
and that is where this film scores big points as the action is very slick and there is plenty of it .
the whole thing rattles along at a frantic pace and you really dont get a chance to get bored .
so if you want some mindless entertainment then this well worth checking out .

Forgotten Freshness Vol.4

Forgotten Freshness Vol.4
Insane Clown Posse

4.0 out of 5 stars wow, 16 Mar 2008
what you are looking at here is a cracking album and easily the best of this series.
the songs seem to focus on the later recordings and as such the production is alot better.
the standard of the songs is also alot higher.
and the hallowicked second disc is blinding and could easily stand on its own.
definately worth checking out!

Sworn to a Great Divide

Sworn to a Great Divide
Soilwork

3.0 out of 5 stars going nowhere, 1 Feb 2008
here we have the sound of a band treading water.
all of the parts are in their place and thats why this album is disappointing.
every other soilwork album the band have moved on or progressed in some way...but not here, here they are rehashing "stabbing the drama" and selling it as a new album.
the guitars sound terrible and flat and the pace is far too one dimensional.
speed as always puts in a hell of a performance but the downside is that he too has just done the same thing again for 45 minutes.
the one thing i never thought i would be saying about soilwork is that they are boring but in this album i found myself very bored after about 4 songs.
they feel repetitive and old and like a band that has run out of ideas.
i so very much wanted this to be as brilliant as their last 3 albums and i suppose it is as its almost exactly a carbon copy of the last one!!!
which is why for me it fails as they have never stepped into the same shoes twice in a row but here they have.
if you have the rest then dont bother if you dont have anything by the band start with "natural born chaos" or "predators portrait" as they are far superior to this.
